Listen to this rendering of "How Great Thou Art" sung in the Austrian Alps by this brilliant country music group and prepare to <b>WONDER </b>at their skill and God's greatness. Click on this <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXQpDDcrN-w">LINK</a><br />
<br />
This group have also recorded some wonderful Christmas carols on their CD "Full of (Even More) Cheer". This group sing everything a capella with amazing harmonies and arrangements. "O Holy Night" is my favorite and I have been listening to Christmas Carols for a very long time! This is fresh and new. Wonderful! Do take a moment and go to You Tube to hear more of their recordings.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;">This is a picture of my dear friend VAN. I have chosen her for this post not just for her name but also for her VICTORY. This photo was taken in June this year at my husband's 80th birthday celebration. Five months later, Van was gone. And here is the Victory part. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
She knew she was dying (she was in her nineties) and when she was put into hospice care I went in to see her. She was sitting up in bed all ready to see me. I gave her a hug and she said to me in typical 'Van' fashion, with her wry humor and in a dry raspy voice,</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
"So this is what they call the end". Typical Van!! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I laughed and said, "No, Van, this is the beginning!!" She knew what I meant. She was more than ready to go because she knew where she was going. In fact she had expressed several times in the weeks before that she wished the Lord would take her because then she wouldn't have to deal with the aggravations in her life. That day I visited her, she was actually rejoicing. Her sins were forgiven, she loved the Lord and there were only good things on the other side.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Two weeks later I sat with her beside her bed and held her hand. I talked to her softly but she didn't answer. I didn't expect her to, but I knew she could hear me. They say that hearing is the last to go. The next day I was just getting ready to go to see her again when I got the phone call that she had passed into the Lord's presence.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><i><span style="color: blue;">O Death where is your sting?</span></i></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><i><span style="color: blue;">O Grave where is your victory?</span></i></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><i><span style="color: blue;">......</span></i></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><i><span style="color: blue;">Thanks be to GOD who gives us the VICTORY through our Lord Jesus Christ.</span></i></b></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is a photo of our puny little Lantana Tree back in March 2013. It had been without much water before we moved into this house. Around it was a large patch of purple ice plant that was beautiful in </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
full color for a month or so but was old and 'ratty' looking for the rest of the year. We were so embarrassed by our ugly tree that we seriously considered cutting it down. But then we decided to water it and feed it for a while and see if we could rescue it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE7hr__RZCVjJ56PYbXvyji8l52gnMVLaq4lCnG-hIf9bQ3TM-OmSLbxKSb1Zu6nXjiFmkAxIPLMEO7mPSM51uGJ0WisPpOcaav-L_sfsynwOa4Cgz0vaY_zbYHFn5RLV5ITVHnCGtkzJg/s1600/2013-05-16+012+-+Copy.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE7hr__RZCVjJ56PYbXvyji8l52gnMVLaq4lCnG-hIf9bQ3TM-OmSLbxKSb1Zu6nXjiFmkAxIPLMEO7mPSM51uGJ0WisPpOcaav-L_sfsynwOa4Cgz0vaY_zbYHFn5RLV5ITVHnCGtkzJg/s400/2013-05-16+012+-+Copy.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It totally surprised us by bursting into bloom and with a little help from careful trimming and giving it a little more attention, it really began to thrive. It was a bit unwieldy but we didn't know anything about pruning -- or anything else about gardening. So we let it bloom.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpIRNlqBEW-DNgpWT0tTEQkf7ZyUJIA0YYDpSFDXJmegmwsF5uKDBcP4TqbjGkrai9YpC8VtJBIy0ww4sBW11PE-v2R4wmsM9NkC5ArVWEyiE3SqU5ySoCrux5cd8ytbnV8morDLB3b4ky/s1600/IMG_3504.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpIRNlqBEW-DNgpWT0tTEQkf7ZyUJIA0YYDpSFDXJmegmwsF5uKDBcP4TqbjGkrai9YpC8VtJBIy0ww4sBW11PE-v2R4wmsM9NkC5ArVWEyiE3SqU5ySoCrux5cd8ytbnV8morDLB3b4ky/s400/IMG_3504.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In a year or two it got so heavy with blooms that we decided we had to cut it back because when the rains came the branches or even the spindly trunk might break. So we waited for the blooms to die off before we trimmed it. By this time we had come to think about this tree as a miracle tree because it NEVER stopped blooming. Finally we had to take the bull by the horns and cut it back -- blooms an'all. Within a month of cutting it back, the tree was in full bloom again. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
About that time, we decided to take out the ice plant and redesign the front garden (It's not very large) I have related about this in previous blogs so I'll get back to the tree. It has never stopped blooming now for almost four years except when we trimmed it back and then only for enough time for new buds to form.</div>

We have already cut this back twice this year, once in May and then in July and sure enough it came back blooming even better, if in a rather unruly condition.<br />
<br />
<br />
So about 3 weeks ago we trimmed it back in a more orderly fashion.<br />
And yes, it is covered in buds again and we are waiting to see if and when it will burst into bloom. A nice bonus is that the butterflies and<br />
humming birds love this tree -- not to mention bees!<br />

The first is </span></span><span style="color: black;">to get my hair done every week. Now the photo above doesn't exactly look like I just had it done but that's because it is supposed to have the 'tousled' look. My beautiful beautician took the photo just a few minutes after it was finished. She really does a wonderful job. It takes very little to look after it -- just the "Freeze and Spray" hairspray which is quite strong, but very necessary as my hair has a mind of its own. I can't believe how old I look here. My hair color is natural. I wanted to take a photo to compare with others taken a year or so ago. Perhaps I shouldn't have. But this is my birthday photo. Christmas Day I will be 79. I really don't believe it. I don't feel a day older than 69 -- but obviously I look it.</span></a><br />

What a blessing that is! It means we have to put away stuff we've been working on or just left out. There is'nt much to do in the kitchen since I don't cook a lot. The dust is the biggest problem. The house is quite old, though it doesn't look it, but it certainly gets a lot of dust. That is partly because I have the front door open most days. Our large living room windows face south and the sun keeps the house nice and warm. With the doors open we get a beautiful breeze right through the house. <i>The last turkey dinner I cooked, 2013</i></div>
<br />
So yesterday was Thanksgiving. We had a very nice quiet day. My family know that gone are the days of my cooking a large turkey dinner! Both boys are either away or traveling so there were just the two of us.<br />
<br />
About 2:30 p.m. we wandered (in the car) down towards the ocean where we visited The Claim Jumper, one of our favorite restaurants. We knew they were fully booked but they said that if we just walked in they would probably be able to fit us in -- and they did! There were 8 or 10 couples with reservations waiting in line. We just went up to the counter and flashed our "Tom Landry" club card and they seated us right away. This is a membership card for the restaurant where we get points for every time we choose to eat there, a free meal for a certain number of points and a free meal on our birthdays. Not a bad deal since the food is excellent and the servings large. We had the turkey dinner of course -- 4 large slices of carved turkey, vegetables, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, preceded by a salad and followed by pumpkin pie. The really good thing about this restaurant is that there is always way more than we can eat at one sitting so we get leftovers boxed up. Guess what we had for dinner tonight?.....Another turkey dinner!!! Since I don't care for pumpkin pie we took our desserts home too and Barry had mine this evening. But don't feel bad for me because he went to the grocery store and bought gelato tiramisu for me.YUMMY!!!<br />
<br />
I didn't waste all day on the laptop today. Although I<i> WAS </i>on the laptop, I wrote my article for our News Magazine. Nothing very earthshaking, but at least I finished it before the deadline, December 11th. I joined the publications committee of the HOA a couple of years ago, consequently I frequently contribute articles and photographs to the News Magazine, which helps to keep me out of mischief.<br />
<br />
That's all for now. See you again later.<br />

<br />
PHEW!! After about 4 hours I finally got back into my old blog. I stopped blogging about 18 months ago -- mostly lack of motivation and didn't seem to have much to write about<br />
But I think I've got a little more enthusiasm to pick it up again. We shall see. I certainly hope I can get back into this dashboard page again. Honestly I think I tried every combination I could think of. Ah well, persistence pays off. Now I'm hoping I can catch up with all my old friends from my past blogging days.<br />
<br />
We had about a half an inch of rain yesterday. YAY! Everything is looking SO much better. We haven't had anything more than a drizzle since last May. The creek is looking good and the ducks are much happier.<br />
<br />
I have had no more digestive blockages since I last wrote. I have lately been drinking green tea with honey, greatly diluted with water. I never drank water, but now I have about 24-30 ounces of the diluted green tea and I have to say that I think I feel somewhat more energetic than I was. It's either the tea or the fact that the hot weather has finally moved on.<br />
<br />
Not doing anything special for Thanksgiving. Son #1 and wife and daughter are on the road permanently, helping out with Samaritan's Purse, and amazingly working with the FLDS polygamous<br />
families of Colorado City, AZ. This is the group run by Warren Jeffs who is now in prison for life for sex with minors. The women who want to leave this cult have nowhere to go and need as much help they can get. There are genetic problems among the children and a 'baby cemetary' for the many babies that died at birth or very young. It is an amazing story how Son #1 got involved with this ministry. Visit <i><a href="http://totally-trailer.com/">totally-trailer.com</a></i> to see what is happening in their lives.<br />
<br />
Son #2 and Vicki are coming to visit at Christmas. Since Barry has been having digestive problems we will probably have Thanksgiving dinner out and plan not to eat too much so that we can bring some home for dinner on Friday and still not eat too much at one sitting.<br />
<br />
Other lovely things happening in our lives but will write about them another day.ChrisJhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11550420299395301062noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6520893128143413982.post-66822458487681346262015-05-26T19:12:00.001-07:002015-05-26T19:14:21.634-07:00TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCESI was on a cruise ship a few months ago when something happened that has niggled at my conscience for a while since then.<br />
<br />
I was sitting in the library area, feet up, on a very comfortable chair, drawing and watching the seascape glide by. An older husband and wife sat a few yards away from me and a few yards away from them a group of exuberant students filled up the padded benches just to their left. Because of the way I was sitting I could see both the students and the couple very clearly.<br />
<br />
After a while the students moved on. Soon after that, the husband of the couple casually stood up and strolled toward the padded benches, picked something up and just as casually returned to his seat. He had in his hand some kind of iphone or ipad. Then followed a conversation between them as to what to do with the ipad. The wife opted to either leave it there or turn it into the desk. The husband felt that whoever he gave it to would probably keep it for themselves. As the debate continued in subdued voices, I sat as though concentrating on my drawing. At some point the wife mentioned that I had probably seen and heard what had happened. The husband assured her not to worry about me, he was sure I hadn't seen or heard anything, (too old and too intent on my drawing). What neither of them knew was that I have excellent hearing, and as a teacher I am unusually alert to deliberately casual behavior -- someone's usually up to no good.<br />
<br />
After about ten minutes they both got up and took the iphone with them. For as long as I was there no-one came back looking for their possession.<br />
<br />
I have no idea what happened in the end, but I must admit that I am disappointed in myself that I didn't do or say something to prevent this from happening. Even worse, at the time it didn't even occur to me to intervene. I know I was absorbed in my drawing, but I also know the difference between right and wrong. Maybe I was just waiting to see they would do.<br />
<br />
What do you think? To me, doing nothing is the same as being part of the problem, not part of the solution.<br />
<br />
This incident was brought to mind by Berowne's post today where you can find another moral dilemma for you to solve.<br />

Once I got word from the hospital that that nasty movi-prep wasn't necessary, the surgery was a breeze! In at noon, home by 6;00 pm. No pain , just a little soreness and stiffness. They think they got the adhesions from past surgeries that were causing the problems. I'll know more after the follow-up appointment. Thank you Lord!<br />
<br />
Can you believe it we have people actually come to the front door to say how much they like the improvements we have made to our front yard! It is quite simple (see two posts ago) but I guess quite effective. The large stones were more expensive than we had anticipated but we decided to bite the bullet, because they'll be here longer than we will, they will take care of the drought problem and they won't blow away with the leaf blower.<br />
<br />
I've been lured on to facebook, (I said I'd never do it....) mainly because my past students need someone to contact for their school records now that the school is closed. But I have discovered the fun of catching up with old high school friends (60 years ago!) and others along the way, not to mention some new friends from Flamborough where I lived all those years ago, with wonderful photographs, enough to make me homesick.<br />
<br />
Now if I can get myself together to do something exciting I'll have something more to blog about.<br />
<br />
Thank you for all your prayers and thoughts.<br />

<b> I am not very good with fantasy as I mentioned to Michael, our Creative Tuesday facilitator,</b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>so I resorted to zentangles. I am such a down-to-earth realist! I don't even read fantasy or science fiction, nor watch those kinds of movies. <b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>This is not due until March 19th but in order for it not to get lost with ABC Wednesday I have posted it early. <div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: right;">
<span style="font-size: large;">BEFORE..</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
In our retirement park, the homes are all manufactured homes, some small, some large, all well kept and well maintained. We don't have a large front yard -- which is exactly the way we wanted it, but the ice plant in front of the house, was beginning to die off and needed replacing with....something. So I got busy and designed what I thought would be attractive, low maintenance and drought resistant. We are under strictly regulated water usage in our area because we are now in our fourth year of drought. The change has been in the works for a couple of months (We had to have HOA approval first.) So now it is all finished I have some photos to show the change we have made.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
The tree is a Lantana and has never stopped blooming since the day we moved in. The purple flowers at either end are bouganvillea which flower most of the year and will grow like a vine, which I plan to train to drape over the shell and the stones in a limited way. It should only need trimming. We also put a pot of Fortnight Lilies at either end to add some greenery. They are named that because they flower every fortnight. They are also easy to grow and don't mind the hot weather. Finally, we left the one solitary sago palm where it was originally planted by the previous owner.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
The fisherman is a tribute to my growing up years in the village of Flamborough on the East Coast of Yorkshire. We bought him a good number of years ago and hadn't found the right place for him in our new yard until now.</div>
<br />
We have had lots of positive comments from passers-by. Even the park manager said she liked it. The only negative factor was that we had to take out our tulip tree. It was still quite small, but as they can grow extremely large--as tall as 50 feet -- it was probably not a good place to have it. In addition it had to be protected from frost which we could do at this size, but would have had some difficulty as it got much larger, even though we only have a few nights of frost per year.<br />
<br />
I know rocks are not a good substitute for grass, but in our climate they fare much better than grass.<br />
<br />
All in all we are quite pleased and look forward to seeing the plants develop.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
I loved this theme and had no shortage of ideas but this is the one I decided upon. I call it "Puddles".</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaA4nwsERsGl6Ry-YYzizfT72NYRei_dj4rk96_Fhky8IITpm9WXUdfUtgj5JBL0TdNfWjCCnO_S2DbhHVJ0qH3bpv_OEg66_Y9Uliqucc5KmUWJ3IP_zdN_owuMoyZ_xPCFmS6sfsSfKO/s1600/Puddles05042015.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="448" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaA4nwsERsGl6Ry-YYzizfT72NYRei_dj4rk96_Fhky8IITpm9WXUdfUtgj5JBL0TdNfWjCCnO_S2DbhHVJ0qH3bpv_OEg66_Y9Uliqucc5KmUWJ3IP_zdN_owuMoyZ_xPCFmS6sfsSfKO/s640/Puddles05042015.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
I think this is one of my most favorite pictures that I have drawn in recent years, not because it is so especially good, but I like the mischievous girl, and the dog looking equally mischievous. I like the colors and especially the movement. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This is the first drawing I have done in about a month -- since I came out of the hospital actually. For a while I didn't have the mental energy or enthusiasm to draw or write, but I have felt so much better this past week that I was just ready to go with this picture!</div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
P.S. I have surgery in 3 weeks -- shouldn't be serious, but there might be a gap in my posts again until I get my energy back. Thank you, if you can be praying.</div>

ChrisJhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11550420299395301062noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6520893128143413982.post-21983443589368800302015-04-28T15:47:00.000-07:002015-04-28T15:50:42.951-07:00IT'S BEEN A LONG SIX WEEKS!I think I'm finally up to posting again, but it has been a long and not too pleasant six weeks. Apart from the actual medical procedure, the worst was that the hospital doctors took me off my normal medications, cold turkey. After I complained, they gave me something as a substitute, which was not effective and which my own doctor said was "too little, too late". Consequently the side effects of going off my normal meds turned into strong withdrawal symptoms for about a week or more. Not pleasant. In fact very scary. It has taken me about 3 weeks to begin to feel like myself again. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
In the mean time I've missed April, but not completely since our lovely little new home is in the midst of trees and the creek and I've been able to recuperate by watching the baby birds, and birds passing through, not to mention the antics of the ducks, which I'm sure will be accompanied by ducklings any day now. Everything is pretty well in full flower now.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Somewhere along the line we have acquired a new all-black duck. He is quite a bit larger than the other mallards and I have not been able to identify him. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is obviously not a very good shot, but I'm posting it to show how much like a goose he is. In some sunlight his head and neck do have the green iridescent color like the other mallards, but not nearly so noticeable. He has to be some hybrid I think. He does mix with all the other ducks and they don't seem to object to him, even though he is quite a bit larger.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We have had the beautiful purple ice plant removed, because it is dying back in a quite a few places and looking kind of unsightly. It's coming to the end of its life.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
We have also trimmed back the large Lantana bush which never stops blooming, and made some major changes in the look of our small front yard. These should be finished in a day or so. I will publish the photos soon. I know I'm going to be pleased. As much as I liked the ice plant, it only stayed looking beautiful for about a month.<br />
<br />
I don't think I will get back into ABC Wednesday this week, but hope to be back to this and Creative Tuesday next week.<br />
<br />
I am to have exploratory laparoscopic surgery in the next three weeks or so, but I am hoping it will be no more than a 48 hour procedure and not involve cutting out my medications. You can be sure I will be letting my needs be known long and loudly after the last fiasco. The next major hurdle will be if they find anything and what they (I) will choose to do. <br />
My old nemesis, Intestinal Blockage reared its ugly head again this week. So this is a simple apology for scrambling my entries for ABC Wednesdays 'The Letter L' and Creative Tuesdays, 'the Bouquet.' For once I had both of these entries ready to post, but half way between the actual posting and the Linking-in process I became acutely ill. Ended up back in the Emergency Room (now for the third time in the past two years!) The blogs were posted but not actually linked. So I do think you can still go back to actual pages and read my entries.<br />
<br />
Had 6 days in the hospital and returned home just three hours ago. You don't need to hear all the gory details but hopefully one day I can blog the implications of these episodes -- that is when I know them for myself!<br />
<br />
Not sure when I will get all my blogging sorted out and in good order again. In the mean time stay tuned.<br />
<br />
I'm not giving up. Your prayers are appreciated.ChrisJhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11550420299395301062noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6520893128143413982.post-4019469227203094902015-03-29T00:03:00.001-07:002015-03-29T00:04:28.988-07:00CREATIVE TUESDAY 31/3/15<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The challenge this week is to take the single flower you submitted in the last challenge and make a bouquet of them. Hmmm -- fiddly and detailed, but I did it and I quite like the result.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(Sorry Kay, it's not as beautiful as you are.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
My sister, Kay, known by her friends as Kathy, by family as Kay and her bloggers as Kaybee, is almost eight years younger than I am. I drew this portrait of her from a photograph taken recently. I really liked the photo, which I think makes her look like someone out of a Jane Austin novel.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
We have had an unusual relationship in as much we really didn't know one another until 2007 when I was in my 70's and she in her 60's. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
By the time we were of an age as children that we might have interacted very much, Kay was three and I was almost 12. I started attending high school in the nearby town of Bridlington. Each day I left home at 8:00 in the morning and didn't get home again until about 5:30 p.m. This was the situation until I graduated in 1956. Then I went away to college, after which I worked in the cities of Nottingham and Liverpool. Soon after that I was married and my husband and I moved to Canada and subsequently the USA. So we really didn't have much time to get to know one another.<br />
<br />
By 2007 Kay had moved to Canada and we lived in Southern California. It happened that year that our church denomination planned to hold an international conference in England. My husband and I organized a tour to England for the members of our church to attend the conference followed by a bus tour for a week afterwards. Kay wrote and asked if she could join us for the bus tour. So now after 50 years, my sister and I had the chance to spend time together and get to know one another for a whole week.<br />
<br />
We were so surprised to find that despite being apart for so long we had many, many things in<br />
common. It has been a wonderful experience to now have a sister, who though we are still far apart in miles, we have since been able to spend much time together, by visits every year, by telephone and of course through email.<br />
<br />
Though we came from a non-practicing Christian home, an important part of our close relationship has been that we both developed a strong personal Christian faith many years ago.<br />
<br />
Now as I look at this post, it seems to me that we need to have a photograph of us together. So next time she comes down to visit that's something we must do.<br />

JACKALOPE</b></span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b> (CREATIVE TUESDAY participants please scroll down one page)</b></div>
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><b><br /></b></span>
It was our first summer after arriving in Canada way back in 1960. We decided to take our vacation from college by taking a trip out west from Toronto to see the Rockies. So we packed up our beat up old volkswagen and set out across the prairies. <br />
<br />
It was on one of our first stops in a small prairie town that we first came across the JACKALOPE. We picked out a restaurant on the high street and went to have dinner. Once inside and having ordered I looked around the typical western diner, when I notice this mounted on the wall.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhut7i5g1ckb1st8CVrPBEHNt9WwhmVdf1kmwI-tWXzbShpgAgGV9y6avp40UwmNiMhHp-fCfchO1K098j85esHyxC14g54NZ_Y3_-GBML21NCvFkZcdpHCx8bgcMflRnzPmAcZy_lviz7l/s1600/Jackalope+-1JPG.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhut7i5g1ckb1st8CVrPBEHNt9WwhmVdf1kmwI-tWXzbShpgAgGV9y6avp40UwmNiMhHp-fCfchO1K098j85esHyxC14g54NZ_Y3_-GBML21NCvFkZcdpHCx8bgcMflRnzPmAcZy_lviz7l/s1600/Jackalope+-1JPG.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now, we were rookies in North America but this was something I'd never seen before. We asked the young fellow serving us about it, </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
"Oh that's a Jackalope," he said.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
"Okay," I replied, somewhat sceptically. I'd been a teacher for a few years and I'd never come across anything like this in any of my Geography books. But I was new in the area, British and far too polite to argue.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sometime later I knew it was a practical joke -- a jack rabbit with horns glued on it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But actually it's become much more than just a simple practical joke. Over the years a whole fable has grown up around the jackalope . Here are some embellishments:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It was first heard of in 1829, but has its roots in the 16th century:</div>

The theme this week for Creative Tuesday is to draw a flower, which is to be followed in the next theme by a bouquet of flowers, using the same flowers as is depicted this week.<br />
<br />
My flower is on the zentangle or mandala style, so I'll call it a Zahlia. It is fine for this week, but to do a bouquet of this flower for the next project maybe a bit difficult. But we shall see.<br />
<br />
Anyway here is my submission for this week:<br />

<span style="color: purple; font-size: x-large;">"IF..." a poem by Rudyard Kipling, sung by Roger Whittaker.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Rudyard Kipling, a Victorian, British poet, wrote a poem which posed a number of possibilities, quite a few stanzas long . I have only posted three. The last line of the poem is (if you can do all these things) - "then you'll be a man my son".</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is the code of values under which I was raised. Sad to say, many of these propositions have gone by the board today. I believe we are the worse off for that.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here is the poem:</div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you can keep your head when all about you</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But make allowance for their doubting too;</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And treat those two impostors just the same;</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If all men count with you, but none too much;</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you can fill the unforgiving minute</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son.<o:p></o:p><br />
<br />
*******<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
And if you're not too much into poetry, here's a couple of photos of our vividly colored <b>ICE PLANT</b> that is blooming profusely all over Carlsbad right now. These two patches are from our yard.</div>

diet. Recently she has been doing some wonderful artwork, some of which seem to have been inspired by the zentangle style which my sister Kaybee and I have introduced to her.<br />

Her 'step-father', my son, took this delightful photo. It's a keeper.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And how's this for a variety of shape fillers? The little red heart is a perfect touch. I will have to study these to see all the different patterns she has used and then try some out on my work.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Forgive me for bragging about my granddaughter but she is the only one I have and such a delight!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;">This theme was right up my street. I knew almost immediately what I was going to draw.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
In our back yard we have a cheeky and noisy wren who lives <b><span style="color: purple;">under the leaves </span></b>of our large bougainvillea which serves as the hedge between us and our neighbors. Late afternoons he starts his routine of scratching and fluttering while singing loudly. I'm hoping we'll have a family of wrens this year though I haven't seen any suitors yet.<br />
<br />
This was created in Prismacolors with a little black pen, on card, 5 x 7inches.<br />
<br />

Our plants and trees are in the growing mood. We do already have flowers which for our climate is not unusual. Some flowers are blooming almost all winter. But we look forward to the new growth on trees and shrubs as true signs of spring.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCfr7WfCv5QjavStiBgoJv2FPYHmtDazwn671gf9sslrDfMIxkUFiyPmUM2Q4XX2mZYdAVkGSSBIN4vY0505YQEAqA3jai2gOuKS1Be7Chd3j-j1a92iiVgdiLz4oRqRXAEyBfcO8zGHLd/s1600/IMG_3606.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCfr7WfCv5QjavStiBgoJv2FPYHmtDazwn671gf9sslrDfMIxkUFiyPmUM2Q4XX2mZYdAVkGSSBIN4vY0505YQEAqA3jai2gOuKS1Be7Chd3j-j1a92iiVgdiLz4oRqRXAEyBfcO8zGHLd/s1600/IMG_3606.JPG" height="608" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
There are buds beginning to open on our myrtle tree. We have two of them and they are quite young. They are not planted in the best place in the yard. They don't get much sun and the soil in that small area is not good. In addition, because we have had so little rain in the two years in which we have lived here, it has been a struggle to keep them alive. But here they are budding to leaf already this year.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The liquid amber tree that the association planted in the fall, on the bank of the creek at the bottom of our small stretch of yard, is doing really well. Big fat buds beginning to break out into leaf.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This weird looking thing is actually my plumeria which has some green growth at the end of the stumps with tiny little shoots on the tips. It will not actually bloom until late summer, but large green leaves will hopefully appear before then. Early spring ice plant flowers in the background.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When we moved here two years ago, we brought with us several cuttings from our Jade plant. Jades are plentiful around here so they weren't a priority for us. We stuck them in a bucket with some water and there they stayed for almost a year. Finally we got around to planting them at the edge of our property on the bank of the creek. We planted three small clippings hoping they would develop into three small bushes making a kind of hedge. Then if we liked that effect we might plant more and develop a low hedge defining our property from the bank of the creek. Well they have tripled in size and this little one even has the tiny pale pink flowers. Jade plants flower in the winter and are very easy to grow and to propagate, but I wanted at least one plant from our old house, just for memory's sake.</div>

MY NIECE</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This was taken last summer in Hawaii when she and my sister, Kaybee, spent some time with us on vacation.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Today she is entering her third week in the hospital with continuing intermittent seizures -- not epileptic. Today she has had a 24 hour EEG while under heavy sedation. Of course we have no idea of the results yet.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Haley, my granddaughter, is continuing on the same level with her Crohn's disease and they are still considering surgery.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is just an update for my blogging friends and a request for continuing prayer. We are all doing well given the circumstances. Pray for continued peace and strength for Kaybee. Jasmine is doing well between medical procedures and keeping her spirits up, but it's been a long haul.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'll be back to more regular blogging once the urgent needs have subsided. Right now I just need all my concentration for whatever each day brings. </div>

She was taken to the emergency room a week ago after suffering a seizure, (she's 45 years old) and has been having numerous seizures daily since then. All tests have come back normal and no diagnosis is available. They're trying various medicines but nothing seems to be working, in fact they seem to be giving her more problems than helping. We've just had word that she is having a rough night. Please pray for her. Pray for encouragement and comfort for Kaybee.<br />
<br />
It's been a difficult week. Haley is not progressing well either. Another flare-up and now she is back to square one. Much prayer needed there too.<br />
<br />
Then of course, minuscule in proportion, there has been Scruffy's sudden demise.<br />
<br />
We know and believe that God is good all the time and this is not just blind belief. These things we know and believe from past experiences. God is greater than we can ever comprehend and His plans for us are great and good -- for 'Jasmine' and Haley too. He has His reasons and one day we will know why and be able to praise Him for His unsearchable knowledge and wisdom.<br />
