WEDNESDAY'S WORD ON THURSDAY.

Why Me?

Sometimes when things go wrong, our first reaction is, "Why me?"  Others might say "Why not me?" Sometimes I wonder why we don't ask "Why me?" when really good things happen.  There is so much that is good and beautiful in our lives, but too often we would rather blame God than appreciate the good things He has given us.

Job didn't exactly ask "Why me?" when all his troubles came upon him, but he certainly did complain.  Not that I blame him. Even so, when God answered him, I find it interesting that He first asked Job a series of questions.  The questions seem to be designed to point out that there are some things in life that we just can't know.  Not that there aren't any answers, but that we are not able to understand them in our present state or while we are on earth.  But in the bigger scheme of things there are answers.  To tell someone that they just have to trust God, may seem irritatingly simplistic, yet trust is a profound emotion.  To trust God no matter what, is a level of mature faith which Christians strive to achieve.

  2. It is always a test -- can we take it. I think that is why me is universal. Some think things that happen are like a roll of the dice. Take a chance?

  4. Yes, I appreciate what you're saying, Chris, and truly do believe that God uses every experience that we have been through for His Glory and to use us to minister to others. But, I think also that we have a divine, sovereign God who, in His precious love for us, recognises that the whole eternity of His plan is hard for us, in our humanity, to deal with at times. It's all too easy for well-intentioned believers to imply that if we're not living in constant victory that our faith is lacking and to, unintentionally, 'deny permission' for grief processes and human emotions (given by God, as they are)to operate.
In my own experience, i find that it is when I am at my most vulnerable that two things happen - 1. God uses that vulnerability to speak to others, and, 2.I am thrown into relying totally on God's resources because I am completely replete of any within myself.
One day, we will stand before His throne, our faces bowed in awe and wonder at His majesty and we will not need to question anymore; until then, in His wisdom, He totally understands the whole vista of our complexities (after all he made us)and works with us through them. My love to you. x

  8. I have definitely asked that! But then 'why NOT me' has to follow when HE has suffered so much. Thank you Chris.
