N IS FOR .....

The Narrows at Lake Powell

The day after the wedding, we were taken on a tour of part of Lake Powell. (It is a very large lake!)  The newly weds showed us some of their favorite places.  Today I will show you what I call the NARROWS.
It was a couple of miles long.
It widens and narrows again. In one place a sort of basin area opened up and there we stopped for a while for a swim.

Almost spooky.

In some places it was narrow enough to almost touch both sides with your arms stretched out.  But it was plenty deep, though in a couple of place we had to watch for underwater rocks.


Then we hightailed it out o' there!

    Some great pictures, I did not see it as spooky, although it is a drowned canyon. A much more pleasant journey than the explorer John Wesley Powell had when he first travelled Glen Canyon.

    I heard that it used to be higher in volume, but that the drought has made it even dodgier. Cool, but unsettling!

    Thank you for showing these awesome photos of a country I never have seen. It's breath taking.
    Thanks for your visit. Yes there was a lot of interaction and rivalry between England and the Netherlands. Queen Elisabeth I sent Leicester to the Netherlands to support the. Prince of Orange against the Spanish King Philip. Later in the 17th century we had the English wars ( you will call them probably, the Dutch wars with the admiral s De Ruyter and Tromp. Much later during the French Revolution England harboured the Prince of Orange, who became our first king. Since then we were friendly neighbours.

    Oh Chris!! I kayaked Lake Powell this time last year and, I believe from your photos, I ventured through these very narrows...what beautiful shots you have gotten and what wonderful memories they have brought me! Thanks!
