Birds at the Harbor

Not the most excirting pictures today. It was the first day after the rains, so we went to the harbor.  The surf was still very high and rough.  There were a few pelican like this one.  They always look so graceful when they fly by.

Then we saw this egret, who was not about to come any closer.

There were quite a few redwing blackbirds but you can only see the red wings when they fly.  So we sat for ages waiting for one to perch nearby and then waited until he took off again.  I quickly snapped this one off, but it is rather blurry.  But at least you can see he is a redwing blackbird.

There were many people around enjoying their first day out in the sunshine.  We visited the little gift shop at the harbor -- it has some really beautiful things.  Kay is already gathering little 'whatnots' for next Christmas.  Not me.  I don't what to think about Christmas until next November.  I mean the gifts and decorations side of Christmas.

I saw a few pelicans flying over the Yellowstone river but I could not take any photo.

It has been a long time since I seen a redwinged black bird, it seems the only birds we have in my nieghborhood are crows finches, and a couple of humming birds which never wants to stay in one place long enough for me to snap a picture of it. ha ha

It was nice to see a pelican in normal surroundings. We don't have them here. The only one I have ever "shot" I found in - Hyde Park.

I like all three of your photos but the top one is special. The red wing blackbirds we have here show a band of red under yellow when perched.

Red-winged blackbirds have always been the sight and sound of spring for me.
Oddly enough there are pelicans on a man-made lake in our area--strange ungainly birds, but so interesting.
It must seem good to walk again after such nasty storms.

Birds are tricky, aren't they. At least pelicans and egrets are big enough to capture with few problems. I like the bird in flight - it certainly shows off those amazing wings.

That's a great photo of the red-winged blackbird, Chris! I wasn't fast enough to catch him!
