L is for....

LIGHTHOUSES I HAVE LOVED
(AND STILL DO!)

From one side of the world to the other....

Kjeungskjaer, Norway

Kauai, Hawaii

...and in between...

South Stack, Anglesey, North Wales.

And if you thought I'd get as far as this without mentioning Flamborough, you must be new to my blog!!
So here it comes...
FLAMBOROUGH LIGHTHOUSE

Flamborough boasts not one, but two lighthouses.  The one above built in the 1800's and the one below built in the 1600's.

The old lighthouse is built about half a mile inland from the new lighthouse and I lived half way between the two.  I must be one of very few people left who have actually been inside the old lighthouse. It's all locked up and out of bounds now. It had old steps that spiraled their way up the wall inside -- no railings.  I don't believe I ever went to the top, the steps were too dangerous.  But I do remember looking out of one of the windows. Of course there was no electricity, just a bonfire or torch lit on the top as needed.

And here we are, we two sisters in mid-summer not very long ago,  in our favorite spot.

Do you know what paradise on earth would be?

That would be Paradise for you! I posted a Lighthouse too.

I've only visited a few, but the Portland Lighthouse in Portland Maine was so impressive!

Hi Chris !
All these Lighthouses are very beautiful. Great choice for L, Chris !
In France there are a lot of Lighthouses in west in Britain
but over there le weather is neitner the one of southern California nor the one of Caribbean.
Yesterday I heard about a earthbrake in southern California.

A pleasure indeed to see such a fine collection of lighthouses (my preference at the top, of course...)

PS There was something wring with the link at ABC, but I knew the way anyhow :-)

You forgot to add 'with art materials in hand' to your paradise scenario! That old one at Flamborough is wonderful, isn't it. x

I love lighthouses! Have you painted any of these, Chris?

The old Flamborough lighthouse is opened up just for selective days and by appointment. When I was in the stroke unit, a few years ago, my husband took the boys along to cheer them up and and they were able to climb it...quite an experience, I understand. They also have a certificate to say that they have climbed the new one...although I am not able to see it for myself, the huge magnifying light certainly impressed those four young boys! x

Your lighthouse in Flamborough is beautiful. I can see why you and your sister love it. It is a very nice picture of the two of you.

I've climbed a few LHs in my time including Ardnamurchan and visited Cape Wrath, The Lizard and I've got photos of two of the last keepers on the Needles.

I posted a lighthouse too. They are so individual and lovely. So. Cal. weather definitely would make them perfect.

Great collection of lighthouses. Now you need to paint each one.....

word identification: Purses.. I just thought that was odd. Maybe it means something special to you today, who knows...

Wait for global warming to kick in properly and it may well be that warm and the British Isles will be more of a tropical archipelago. Anyway, pessimism aside, did you know that all the foghorns around the UK are silent now. So there is nothing to wake you up with a jump in the middle of the night when you are sound asleep when staying in your cousin’s house.............. for instance.....
