FLAMBLOGGER: W is for...

WILDLIFE AT MY HOUSE THIS WEEK

I think he wants to come in.  He comes up to the window and knocks.  He wants more birdseed!

Here are a couple of his pals -- or maybe Momma and Poppa

We call this guy, Peg Leg.  He has only one leg as you can see and has been with us about 6 months now.  He is a Californian Towhee, (different from the Eastern Towhee).

Dozens of this cheeky bird -- the common house finch -- but such beautiful bright red color.

Either a juvenile or female hooded oriole.  We don't get too many of these, so I was lucky to get this good shot.

Can you even see this one?  His beak is in the flower and he is facing us.  I think it may be a rufous humming bird, or a juvenile .  It's so hard to tell the difference between the species at this time of year.

The guilty party who ate my young melon-colored hibiscus, which is now no more, thanks to him!

Though these may not be as exciting as some wildlife others get, remember we are only in a tract home, surrounded by houses in the midst of a city.  A nice rural looking city, but still a city.  My son only half an hour away can boast all of these as well as coyotes and a mountain lion!

I love your wildlife. Great closeups. Your squirrel "knocking" is too cute.
We have in our tract homes a few squirrels, birds a skunk or two, opposum and the neighbor's cat!

Wildlife sightings make our days more interesting. Sometimes the creatures make a mess and our visitors become pests, but it would be dull without them.
I have posted an award for you on my blog. I felt the exercise of passing it on might be good for me. Hopefully I did it correctly.

May I write a poem about your little peg-leg bird? When I publish it, if I may, I'll give you due recognition and let you know when it's up.

What a blessing (sometimes!) to be surrounded by all that wild-life!

Regardless of where you live, capturing wildlife pics is always fun! Love the bird shots.

Oh, that first picture of the squirrel is just too precious. And the rabbit has a guilty look on his face, for sure, but who could bring themselves to scold him!

I like the way you caught the humming bird flapping his wings. Good capture.

You are lucky to have so much wild-life close to your house - we ave the occasional Iberian snail...

You certainly have a variety of wild life around your house. Your son can keep his mountain lions, hahahaha! The little critters are good enough.

I am truly amazed that you have so many shots of wildlife! Looks like you have some 'regulars' around your house. Good catch on the Oriole. He must be a juvenile since he posed long enough for the photo. I find that they are very skittish.

We once had squirrels got into the school where I was working and they caused serious damage, chewing through wires and gnawing on furniture and books,so as lovely to look at as they are I am wary of them now, but those birds are just so beautiful. O bless...I love old peg leg - if only he could tell you about the scrape he got himself into. x

Sorry, Chris, I must be half asleep - I've no idea why I typed in 'English' instead of 'Elizabeth'. I couldn't believe it when I looked and saw that!!!!x
