Y is for

Y is for...

Yearling
That's what last year's lambs are about now...YEARLINGS, fat and chubby, no longer able to gambol and play as they did last year.  This year they will make delicious lamb chops!  Oh dear, I love lambs and I love lamb chops too.  What's a person to do?

This morning I saw this strange yellow stuff all over my wet patio and coming through my kitchen window.  Whatever is it?

Oh, now I remember!  It's sunshine!

After two days of drenching rain and for two weeks before that, the rain just never stopped.  There are small mud slides all over town -- and some larger ones not far away. Trees with shallow root systems are coming down. The ground is so sodden that I'm looking anxiously at our 50 foot fir tree that is growing on a slight bank just off the patio. Moth planted it there many years ago when it was barely a foot high.Question is, will it stay there?

To continue with my 'Y's , there's Yikes!  Yowl! and Yippee! all great onomatapoeias (see, I did learn something in high school) but not easy to photograph.  That's OK with me, because my printer which would accept my camera memory card and transfer the photos onto the computer, will no longer do so.  I have to find a couple of hours to find another way to go direct from the camera to the computer.  I'm sure it's quite simple.  But things which are quite simple on computers usually end up consuming all my day for me. Since our computer is now over 75% full and keeps threatening to shut down but then still keeps on working, I'm having to tread delicately .

I foresee a new computer in the works for us this year -- and maybe a new printer.  Oh dear!  It will break the bank!

The letter Y is brought to you on behalf of Mrs. Nesbitt's ABC WEDNESDAY.  Visit this link to see just how many bloggers participate in this.

Dreadful, all that rain you're having, Chris.
Also dreadful is the lamb dilemma. I know exactly what you mean. Gamboling in the grass on one hand, tasty in mint sauce on the other.
Sigh.
But I'm wondering about the strange yellow stuff on your patio. Fir trees don't drop yellow stuff. Mysterious and mysteriouser.

Great post - but I'm sorry about your computer probs - doesn't take much of that to make me a little crazy(ier). Good luck!

We saw that strange yellow today too. What a happy occurance.
Hope your tree stays put and your computer/printer hang on a whie longer. My computer needs more memory or I will be in dire straits. Hate the thought of buying a new one. I'm right there with you.

Well, too much rain and computer problems in the middle of winter make it really hard to come up with with anything for the day, but you did a terrific job as always Chris! I do hope things get much better quickly!

Do you have a USB port on the computer? Head out and get yourself a 'card reader' - preferably one with the USB2 standard. Just remove the card from the camera and plug it into the reader and assuming everything else is set up - Bob's your uncle'. Generally it's a lot faster than downloading directly from the camera- at least that was my experience. Card readers cost about $15.00 - or less.

Hello Chris ! HAPPY NEW YEAR !
In french the letter "Y" is very difficult to illustrate.
Your lamb and the tiger head on your previous post are very beautiful.
Youpi is Yippee in french !

How can you mention Yearling and lamb chops in the same sentence! Shame on you, but they go well in an Irish stew. We have had some of that unusual yellow light twice since we went away for Christmas in a snow storm two weeks ago. We also came home in a snow storm too after a week of no snow. No yellow light when we had a chance to see a solar eclipse, the eclipse was eclipsed by solid cloud.
If the computer is getting iffy, don't put off making some time to back up everything you can, including your email address book. A certain brand of software may suddenly decide unilaterally that you can’t use your computer at all and go into a deep deep sulk.

Interesting - you call them yearlings, we call them shearlings - remember that for S next year!

I hope your fir tree remains upright and sun continues to stream through your windows.

Have you tried uploading your images to an online storage site such as Picasa or Flickr?

I see that you have already got the "card reader advice" - works splendidly. The lamb reminded me of our Christmas dinner :-)

PS And if you have any of that yellow stuff to spare - please send us some ...

Lambs - so endearing! It sounds as though you need LOTS of sunshine to dry out your soggy land.

Thank you so much Rusty and those who would have given me the same advice. Went out and purchased a USB digital card reader and it works just fine. There's so much out there that I have no idea about!

Thanks for that advice as well!
Great post Chris.
I saw a lot of the sun today - but also some strange clouds - means snow tomorrow!
Takecare!

Why don't you buy a free standing hard drive and transfer a lot of the stuff to that and then delete it from your computer? It would free up space. The free standing hard drives range in price from about $69.99 on up. Thanks for your visit.

Sunshine .. let me think. Mm. I think I remember it! LOL!

Talking of trees with shallow roots, I was looking at a fir in our garden the other day and discussing with OH that it might be leaning over a lot further than it was and maybe we should get a tree man in. We've already had the one next to it taken down for the same reason - it had got so it moved when you leaned a hand on it! Yikes!!
