M IS FOR......

MAPS
The world map below is my husband's.  I bought it for him 20 or 30 years ago (along with the little red pins,) when he started his life as a 'world traveler'.  You can see he has been many, many places.  Some of them he has visited many times .  His traveling has been on behalf of the World Evangelical Congregational Conference, visiting member churches, preaching and teaching.

I have probably been to about a dozen of these places on this map.  I can't say I'm too sorry, because some of these places carry their own hazards which I could do without.

M is also for magnets.

The ones below are just a few of many we have collected.  We don't really officially 'collect' them.  It's just that when we are away if we see one that we particularly like, we buy it and add it to our refrigerator.

The lifeboat on the left is my prize.  I bought it at the Lifeboat House at the North Landing in Flamborough, UK, my childhood haunts.
The seal and the fisherman holding his catch, we bought in Norway last year, where we met Rune of 'Visual Norway.'
Of course, bottom right, is the griffon of Wales.

Love the map and the interesting magnets! Some people are drawn to travel like magnets to metal and then wish to settle down and stay still for a while! Like me! Here's my M.

And off again.... Wow, MOTH has seen a lot of the world.

You always find such interesting things to share on ABC Wed.

What a great record of all your trips! What a visual reminder! We collect magnets from our travels as well - have a few now.
Chris - I don't know how to enlarge the photos. I just save them to my computer and put them on the blog. I don't know how to do it differently. Sorry. Any suggestions?

Maps are fascinating, makes the world look smaller as if shrunk :) I can see the red pin in my country too.

About the worl map I shall be able to see the Atlantic ocean from the sky before to see a jewel island of West French Indies.
I have a collection of magnets too, Chris !!!

Beverley, I really don't have any suggestions. The only thing I can think of is, do you copy and paste your pictures in to your blog or do you use the tool bar at the top? The toolbar has a picture on it. If you click on it, it will let you browse for a picture among what is on your computer and then it downloads it for you. If that doesn't help maybe Blogger can help you.

We have a few RNLI souvenirs too - but I collect the three dimentional ones and add them to a diorama in my bathroom. Must take some photos and post them for everyone to see!

I love the map too. I like looking at maps and exploring places I've never been. I like place names and the shape of land.

Lovely M post!

We used to collect fridge magnets but now our fridge was a wooden door so we've nowhere to display them.

It took me a while to realise what was wrong with the map: it didn't have Europe and Africa in the middle! Isn't it strange how you get used to 'your' map?

Your husband has certainly seen places, judging by the amount of red pins...

What a thoughtful and interesting gift for your husband.
I like your magnets - we have a few, too.

Love your magnets and the world map. Your Hubby really has been around the world.
We used to collect magnets and our refrigerator was filled. When we were selling our house 3 years ago they had to all come down and now they are in a box. I somehow didn't want to put them up again. Besides our Grandkids are older and didn't play with them any longer.
Have a great weekend Chris.

"Travelling" with maps is almost as exciting as doing it the right way. One (that is me) never tires of wondering how things are in this place or the other. One day I may get to some of them!

A very nice post. Magnetic one might say :-)

An impressive set of pins, he must have seen so many different places, lucky man.
I know you all drive on the wrong side of the road in the USA but do fridge magnets swap over too?

ChrisJ said...

Snafu: No, but as Mara points out, the map is all wrong for Brits. England and Europe should be in the center. Took me a while to get used to that when teaching -- also punctuation in addresses, no comma after the house number. I taught a 3rd grade class the wrong way and then had to undo my mistake!

Maps are fascinating, a perfect gift. A non-Eurocentric map, great for understanding the Pacific as a whole.
I can't resist a magnet for memories either.

Wow, what a well travelled man! I hope he brings you back a little prezzie from each of the locations as a reminder of the trip?

Yes, he does and you can't imagine how many knick knacks I have! All very nice ones -- he has good taste, but at our age we're trying to downsize!

That is a very impressive map! It is a nice thing to look at after all that traveling.

Snafu: You're right , it should definitely be LEFT. As an act of humility I will leave it as it is!
