CREATIVE TUESDAYS

Theme:     UNDER THE LEAVES

This theme was right up my street.  I knew almost immediately what I was going to draw.

In our back yard we have a cheeky and noisy wren who lives under the leaves of our large bougainvillea which serves as the  hedge between us and our neighbors. Late afternoons he starts his routine of scratching and fluttering  while singing loudly.  I'm hoping we'll have a family of wrens this year though I haven't seen any suitors yet.

This was created in Prismacolors with a little black pen, on card, 5 x 7inches.

Ah, the Troglodytidae family. There are approximately 80 species of wren throughout the world, the majority in the Americas. Nice picture. Wrens are found here in the UK and I often hear one singing but rarely glimpse any. They are very shy birds that fly fast and low and don’t stay out in the open for long. By the time you are aware they are there, they have ducked into the foliage and are out of sight again.

Gorgeous! I just love all the detail, even down to a little caterpiller just about to become dinner. The wren is so well executed and the eye is immediately drawn to him. You are so lucky to be able to witness this little creature.

I see the mouse. Been telling the story of why cats don't like rats according to the Chinese Zodiac.

This is really beautiful, Chris - one of your very best, I think....well worth framing!

I can never read about birds singing in gardens without remember the time 17 years ago immediately after my cochlear implant operation and being able to hear for the first time in years. Sitting in the garden in the summer and listening to the birds and thinking "what noisy pest they are!" Eventually I got used to the sound again and learnt to love it.

This is so lovely Chris, and it really gets me into that Spring frame of mind.

Hi Chris, your wren "under the leaves" is beautifully drawn and painted. And the wren appears to be concentrating on the caterpillar and the wee mouse. Thanks for sharing the mediums you've used. :-)

Chris,
I love this. We too have bougainvillea and our bunnies scamper under it. However, the frost killed the upper leaves and we had to chop it down. Next fall it will again be beautiful.
I love the intricate detail of the mouse and caterpillar. And Mr or Mrs Wren certainly is beautiful. Colours are outstanding.
Blessings,
Janis

That's really awesome, Chris! Love how you've drawn it and all the details too! (Isn't it funny how some themes speak to others more than some others?) What a beautiful little bird to have in your garden too. I don;t even know how they sound as I'm not sure I've seen one in real life! Anyway, great job. Love it! good to have you back too. Thanks.
