Our topic for CREATIVE TUESDAY this week is:
A FAIRY TALE TREE
I am not very good with fantasy as I mentioned to Michael, our Creative Tuesday facilitator,
so I resorted to zentangles. I am such a down-to-earth realist! I don't even read fantasy or science fiction, nor watch those kinds of movies. Even so it was quite fun to do but I still felt it needed a little life in it so I added the squirrel and an enormous acorn for him -- a gift from the tree.
This is not due until March 19th but in order for it not to get lost with ABC Wednesday I have posted it early. Why don't you hop over to Creative Tuesday and see what others in this community have contributed to illustrate this theme? Please click on LINK here.

Your creativity is shining with this colorful zentangle drawing.
Hi Chris! We sort of have that not-very-good-with-fantasy thing in common. I like to think I have an active imagination but most science fiction leaves me cold. That said, doesn't creativity involve a realm beyond the reality we see day-to-day? The details in your tree explore shapes and colours and there is a creature in there with a big smile and huge eyes. I think s/he would fit beautifully into a fairy tale. As for the squirrel and the acorn, they add the final touches to a masterpiece!
Your tree is fantastic, literally. It would fit into any kind of fantasy and that squirrel can hardly believe its luck. You always create great pictures.
I must say I enjoyed your squirrel portrait. I have been fascinated with them since we moved here almost 60 years ago. Squirrels and hawks seem to fill my external hard drives with their antics.
Nice work. My one daughter, Melinda does these kinds of drawings all the time.
Well, I really love this, Chris. I love how you are always willing to move out of your comfort zone when it comes to art, and this drawing is awesome! The designs and the colours are perfect, and I love the squirrel!
I really like this. (I love fairy tales...)
Chris, thank you for even attempting this being such a "realist" as you say. This is def an imaginative tree and no harm adding a real animal. You'll see the same in mine, come Tuesday. :)
you know, it might surprise you but i only ever read non fiction myself too. I chose this theme as a way for each of us to stretch our imagination and I knew it would particularly appeal to some of us like Niina and Lissa etc, so that's good.
Oh, and thanks for adding the link, come Tuesday. See you then. Well done!
Super colourful zentangle tree Chris. Love all the fronds floating down, a little like a willow tree.
This is adorable, you are so good at fantasy Chris, well done.
the patterns and the colors and the handing leaves, it's just so wonderful. I think it's just perfect for the CT theme.
hope you have a lovely day.
p.s., for some strange reason, your links at CT comes up as errors, it's probably because you change the dates maybe? for me, I usually open the post and copy and paste the link so there's no mistake, just a little idea, sorry if I'm nosy.
I am not into the fantasy thing either, do like your take on it though.
Hi Chris,
For someone who doesn't like fantasy you sure captured that theme. I love your Zentangle tree and of course, adding the squirrel and the acorn made it perfect. :-)
Tracy
Chris,
You were inspired even though fantasy is not in your repertoire. I think the squirrel is adorable and the tree very colourful and fanciful.
Blessings,
Janis
I am a big fan of zen tangle but I too am such a realist that it doesn't come easy. Love your creation!
Very beautiful ! I love the suirrel.
The park where you live is very beautiful.
What a cute fairytale tree - love the tad bit of zentangle work in the leaves. :)
Beautiful. Reminds me of when I did designs to go with my calligraphy which I no longer do. Hand not steady enough.
wow, hi Chris, some how i misplaced the link and found it again through Wanda. I'll be bookmarking it now. Cute cute drawing!
