WANDA'S ART CHALLENGE #2

Blueberries

A beautiful photograph set for us by Wanda this week.  Not as easy as it may look.  Hard to get the bloom on the berries.  I used water color paper  this time and that was OK until I decided to add a couple of colored  pencil parts here and there and there the texture of the paper showed through.  Actually it doesn't show up as much on the original as it does on the scan of the picture.
Again, this is an ATC sized card 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 ".

You can see that I tend to be a literalist when copying a photo.  That is, I don't deviate much from the picture and I don't use my imagination.  My visual memory is not too good, but would be much better if I had taken painting seriously from perhaps my teenage years!

Please visit Wanda's Art Blog to see the others that are still being entered.

Sounds good Chris and my what a great result!
(Waved at Flamborough for you yesterday)

re the red cross - it appears on everybody's - it indicates you the can delete it should you go wrong. There is one against my link too - but only I can see it - in your case only you can see it. Hope this explains. Dxx

I love all the different greens you've got into this. I'm hopeless with green. I can never get it to look realistic somehow.

I quite like the textural bits too. It might be a technique you could develop in another picture.

You're right. It was trickier than it looked, but you've got it really well.

Chris, I think this is really lovely. I love the colors and I can't tell you why, but this piece reminds me of when I was little and life wasn't quite so full of worries as it is these days. Well done!

The only painting I've ever done was tole painting with oils. I worked from published patterns and had a gifted teacher. Fruit was a traditional subject and I did have to work at painting the "bloom". As I recall it was a dry-brush technique added after the rest of the painting was "set."
Dew drops on leaves or fruit was a fun finishing touch.

Great job Chris.... Love the softness. Glad you are participating in these Art challenges. It keeps me painting and that my goal too.

I too tend to not deviate from the original either.

Will paint mine today.

I will post your entry now!!!

I never took an art class in my life, but I would love to do these challenges that Wanda puts up. One of these days, I am going to try it.

You did a great job on these berries. I like the softness of the colors.

Those berries look so REAL, Chris - well done!!

Not sure what the conversation about the red X was - but I always get a red X in your "word verification" box instead of a word, the first time around. So I actually have to post my comment twice to make it work - not sure if it's your set-up or mine.
