TWINCHIES ON MONDAY

TWINCHIES --   this week our subject is GRANDFATHER.

This was quite a challenge for me as I didn't spend much time with either of my grandfathers.  One was in the British Army most of the time.  The other died when I was 7 years old and my main memories of him are listening to the 9:00 p.m. news on the radio. We children had to be as quiet as a mouse while he listened. It was during World War II. Sadly he didn't live to see the end of the war.  So the main images of a grandfather for me are a beard, twirly mustaches, a pipe, and braces or suspenders.  This grandfather also did a little farming and he was a church warden in the local Church of England. This was a major part of his life and he never missed church on Sunday morning.

I love your picture of your grandfather. My grandfather died before I was born and my mother's father was a very old man when I was young. My mother wasn't very close to her parents so I never really knew them well. I had a good relationship with my dad's mother Jan she loved listening to radio 4 which I still enjoy to this day.

Nice Twinchie, very grandfatherly. Although I am a grandfather, I do not have a beard or a farm.
Our shared grandfather died when I was nearly three, and I recall Dad being upset and not being sure why. Being a bit younger than you, I only know them both from photos, so have no real recollection of either.

Being around the same age as my cousin snafu, I don't have any memory of the grandfather that he and my sister ChrisJ share. But I have heard some wonderful comments about him over the years and have often wished that I had known him. I think to be a grandparent is an amazing thing! We hold a very special place in a grandchild's heart, and can have such a positive influence on their lives. I love my grandkids so much!

I think grandfathers these days are a lot younger-looking. Oddly, your twinchie reminds me of my dad - but he was like his father, so I guess he's like my grandad too!

I like your grandfather twinchie. I love how you have put all the details together.
Smoking a pipe seams really to be a very important symbol for grandfathers ;-)

Delightful rendering of your Grandfather. I think he would have liked it.
Nice detail that tells the story.
