FRIDAY -- MY TOWN SHOOT OUTS

TOPIC THIS WEEK:
FRONT YARDS
This is one of my favorite front yards in our seniors' park.  I love the two large palms, (they have a proper name but I can't remember what it is just now. I did say it was a senior's park!) It's not just the palms but also the gabled roofs and the shades.  Along with the paned glass windows it makes this home look quite quaint.  Our front yards are pretty small in this park but must be kept impeccably.  Being small is not a problem because most of us don't want the major hassle of gardening.

I'm participating this week because I was visiting Scriptor and this looks like a project I might be able to keep up with.

P.S.  LATER.
The name of that palm is SAGO PALM.
It only took me 24 hours to remember and then I had to be prompted by my husband

Homesick for Yorkshire you might be, but - even in this summer of sun - you don't get palm trees in Pickering.

That looks remarkably maintenance-friendly:-)

Welcome Chris to FSO. I like your photo and agree the trees are lovely. I think you fit perfectly with our group.

I'm a bit confused about what counts as yard vs garden.

It is very pretty yard. I agree with you maintaining a yard takes a lot of effort, time and money. ^_^

DAWN TREADER: In the UK, everything, front back and sides, is counted as garden. In the US, everything is yard except where you might be doing some cultivation of vegetables etc., Then that's garden. I think I have that right but even after 50 years over here I still get confused over some things, like 'match' and 'game' and 'sports' and 'athletics'.
PEGGY: Thank you for your welcome. I'll try to do it justice.

Welcome to FSO, Chris. I look forward to learning more about where you live.I love those palms but can't for the life of me remember their name right now. They look like a phoenix palm but are too small. Do they grow a bulb at the bottom (above the ground)? If they do, they might be phoenix. Look forward to seeing you on Fridays!

hello Chris and welcome to FSO. I think you will be a delightful addition. I went back a few post to learn more about you. you've written 5 books -I am impressed. I talk a lot but think that I don't have enough to say for a book. to me a yard is just the area surrounding your house and that may contain flower or vegetable gardens. see you next week.

Socal is so different from Yorkshire, isn't it? Love your garden with its sagos.

It certainly looks easy to maintain, unlike our front garden.

Being presently forced to conclude that we are over-whelmed by care of both 'yard' and 'gardens' I have to admire the tidiness of the landscaping in your 'park.' Having always sprawled over a country property I doubt we could adjust and conform to the standards of maintenance!

Beautiful front yard, Chris. I had a palm tree like yours (sycas in french) but it died on last winter. It was to big and we could not put it neither in the greenhouse nor another place.

I think that velvety brown flower has lots of character!

Beautiful yard - My sister lives in a mobile home park in San Luis Obispo and we were just there. I had a nice time walking around seeing the different landscaping ideas. One man has bird houses all over his front porch and feeders in his trees. I walked to see that but never saw a bird while i was there.
